Location and history
Built around 1860, the house was originally owned by the wealthy Dadey family. One daughter married Peter Djudjev, a Sorbonne-educated scholar who studied with Marie Curie and introduced electricity to the city. Djudjev purchased the remainder of the house. A major restoration occurred in the 1970s when it served as the residence of Pencho Kubadinsky. The Petrich family bought the house from multiple heirs in a lengthy 2007 negotiation, fulfilling the father's dream of running a hotel. It opened in early 2010.
Style
The house has a 150-year history. Its restoration was overseen by the Institute for Cultural Monuments. Preserved elements include a very old beam and an original carved door, which served as the model for the new doors installed throughout the building.
Services
The location offers cycle routes to historical sites like Oborishte, Koprivshtitsa, and Panagyurishte Columns, plus marked walking trails to Belo Kamane and Starosel. Visitors can organize tours of Rhododendron forests, oilseed rose, and lavender plantations. The courtyard features locally made souvenirs, including hand-embroidered shirts, knitted socks, and historical items. Guided local history walks in the city are also available to tourists.
Sustainability
The house uses solar panels for most hot water during warm periods and an efficient eco-pellet central heating system otherwise. It features excellent insulation and requires no summer air conditioning. Energy-saving appliances reduce electricity consumption. Waste is minimized by buying in bulk, separating waste for the property and guests, and recycling paper. Local producers and a family garden provide high-quality vegetables, dairy, and meat. Homemade preserves, including lutenitsa and sheep cheese, are highly valued.
